Steve Brusatte Media and Outreach

I am passionate about communicating paleontology to all audiences! In addition to my popular science books, I am the paleontology consultant for the Jurassic World film series and 'resident palaeontologist' and consultant for BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs franchise. I consult regularly for science documentaries, such as the BBC/Apple+ Prehistoric Planet, and my research is often profiled in the international press. I am a regular guest on radio programs, especially NPR's Science Friday, BBC Radio 4 Today, and BBC's In Our Time. And increasingly I do many podcasts!

Film and Television

Jurassic World

I am the paleontology consultant for the Jurassic World film series, and have worked on the films since 2018.

For Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), I worked with director Colin Trevorrow, Production Designer Kev Jenkins, and Visual Effects Specialist David Vickery to introduce a new suite of dinosaurs to the franchise, including the first proper feather-covered dinosaurs like Pyroraptor. These showed, for the first time to international film audiences, what real true feathered and winged 'raptors' would have looked like.

For Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025), I worked with director Gareth Edwards and Vickery to develop new dinosaur characters, including the enormous titanosaur and a new vision for an old favorite: Spinosaurus. The film (and particularly David and his team) were nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects (2026). As part of my work on the film, I presented a behind-the-scenes video on the real dinosaurs that was included in the special bonus features: Jurassic World Dino School.

Walking With Dinosaurs

Since 2013 I have been the 'resident palaeontologist' for the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs franchise. My work with the franchise includes chief consultant roles on the 2025 landmark television series and 2013 feature-length film. I've also presented online films associated with the franchise, appeared on a WWD-affiliated Blue Peter episode on CBBC, promoted the franchise in the media (particularly on BBC Breakfast TV), and consulted on books, video games, and other related products.

Prehistoric Planet

I was one of the series consultants for the landmark BBC and Apple+ streaming series Prehistoric Planet. I played a key role in the development process, working alongside producer Mike Gunton and his team to storyboard themes and scenes, and then assisted lead consultant Darren Naish for the first two series, which focused on dinosaurs.

T. rex Autopsy

My most outrageous television adventure was my role presenting and consulting for the 2015 National Geographic channel mockumentary T. rex Autopsy. I was one of the scientists who cut up a life-sized, anatomically-accurate model of Tyrannosaurus rex as the cameras rolled. And in the many months before we filmed, I helped guide the artists and producers in constructing the T. rex model, using the latest science and fossil discoveries to make it as accurate as possible, from the wispy feathers sticking out of its skin to the details of its lungs, heart, and other internal organs inside.
